Who and What is Skati of the Skins?

No one knows about the existence of this mystical man, apart from the evil Lady of a Thousand Faces. However, she cannot gain access to him or to the structure in his possession that she covets, which is good news for humanity.

Residing in a solitary tower in a secret part of Dal-Rhiatah known as Wizard’s Lot, Skati of the Skins has a special power which makes him immortal — he has a symbiotic relationship with the cloudflood, a roiling sea of clouds that often descends from the skies and rolls across the grassy plains below, squashing everything flat and absorbing any living creature in its path. The cloudflood has parts that are constantly morphing into strange and grotesque faces and other shapes, because it is a hivemind of sentient entities… but who or what are these entities?

To get the cloudflood to quell itself and abate, Skati of the Skins frequently has to throw himself out of the tower window and feed himself to it. For some odd reason, this never kills him — he returns moments later in a new body which looks and sounds exactly like his old one.

He has lived in the tower of Wizard’s Lot for hundreds of years, never dying and not visibly ageing, with only the company of his daughter Wonda and the nebulous guidance of beings he has named “angels”. That is, until the Nighthunter and his friends show up on a quest to save Flara from the Lady of a Thousand Faces and break the curse of the Grim.

Despite the area being known as Wizard’s Lot, Skati of the Skins is not a true wizard. Since the death of the Last Wizard, there have been only mages (who have to go into hiding and learn to use their powers in secret.)
