The forrestmuir is a fairly rare creature that nests in mountainous or hilly regions in the north-western continent of Dal-Rhiatah, but is sometimes found hunting in wooded areas there. They are difficult to spot when amongst the trees as their plumage camouflages them in dappled light and against leaves.
They have wings at least the span of two adult men, and some specimens can be quite large.
Forrestmuirs have some of the old Foundational magic from the origin of the worlds in their blood, although it isn’t known whether the animals actually use magic in their daily lives. They are dangerous to approach unless fatally injured or otherwise unwell. They are nocturnal when in good health and their flight is as soundless as that of owls.
Their flesh has a lot of protein and certain regenerative properties. Half bird, half lizard, forrestmuirs taste the air with their tongues, possess leathern wings, and their scaled front legs end in talons. The largest talon specimen that I have seen was as thick as a grown man’s forearm and longer than my hand from wrist to middle fingertip.
