This young female member of the Griny-Plinth is their army’s second-in-command under General Morticum.
We meet Captain Rossa during Logan‘s adventures on the magical continent of Thosea, when he and his friends are captured by the Griny-Plinth army and detained for being homo sapiens in their territory.
She is a stickler for propriety and following the rules, tending to favour logic over emotions, even if those emotions are her own. Despite that, she has a warm heart and a secret streak of kindness, along with one or two other closely guarded secrets…
For example, she is one of the only surviving beings who knows what happened between The Nighthunter’s master (when he was an apprentice) and a certain Witch lurking on a mountain, and what Logan witnessed during that time when he was fourteen. This is information the Nighthunter would very much like to know, as in the first book of the series he has Ghost-induced amnesia.
She also knows an important prophecy regarding the Nighthunter and the Witch.
Another of her secrets is that she is in possession of magecraft, or magical ability, which is somewhat less common in sentient animals. As a result of this, when she was a pup she had to leave the Griny-Plinth mound and travel into the Hiraeth Mountains for special training with the tribes of mages living there.
Shortly after her return home, a lost and feverish Plintheus Morticum wandered into the Griny-Plinth barrow. She took a special interest in his welfare, recognising a fellow outcast spirit, and as they grew older together, her feelings for him grew more complicated.
It is unknown whether he harboured similar affections for her.
